❗️ Your LinkedIn profile is more important than your resume.
Why?
- Almost 80% of recruiters use LinkedIn as their primary source of talent recruitment.
- In an application, your resume will likely be scanned in 30 seconds or less. The detail in your LinkedIn profile has the potential to pull recruiters in.
- One recruiter might review your resume, but tens of thousands of people have the potential to find your LinkedIn profile. Recruiters use boolean searches that leverage keywords from job descriptions → if your profile is optimized, you’re more likely to be found as a candidate.
This guide will help you show who you are, what you do, and why it matters - clearly, confidently, and with intent.
This is a tried and tested system that’s helped hundreds of startup job-seekers get clear on, and attract, their next role at top startups with venture capital backing from firms - like Andreessen Horowitz, Google Ventures, Sequoia - anywhere from pre-seed to pre-IPO.
Follow it step by step, give it a focused hour, then let your profile start working for you.

⏱️ Before You Begin
We designed this for busy job seekers - whether you’re applying full-time or squeezing it in between life.
You’ve got two options as how to use this template:
🟠 Power Hour: Do the essentials in 60 mins or less
🔵 Deep Dive: Block out 2 hours and complete every section start to finish.
Both options give a more optimized profile than before. Follow the 🟠 steps only for a 1 hour exercise, and 🔵 for a fully optimized profile.
Let’s Get Started:
- Set aside the uninterrupted time to work on this and turn on do-not-disturb. You might want to go somewhere quiet, or where you know you can lock in (i.e. a local coffee shop, a meeting room).
- Duplicate this template to your Notion space so you can fill it in.
- Open a new browser (so you don’t get distracted), and open your LinkedIn profile.
- Have the pages open side-by-side if you can.
Tools You’ll Need:
- Your current resume
- Your LinkedIn profile
- ChatGPT (optional, but speeds up the process)
- A LinkedIn text formatter like this one (also optional, but helps highlight key things)
